There are seminal moments in every political contest at which a campaign is made or mashed. For South Carolina Lt. Governor Andre Bauer’s gubernatoraial bid, that moment came Friday when he made the mistake of opening his mouth and saying words.
The Lt. Governor has enough trouble convincing people he isn’t a bumbling air head. This didn’t help. I mentioned in a previous post that Congressman Gresham Barrett “is his own assassin” in the implosion of HIS campaign. Bauer’s comment has flown around the country on the digital circuit, further embarrassing the state of South Carolina. BLAM! Target down!
Of the four top GOP candidates for governor, three now have national embarrassments in their resumes. Barrett had the incredibly embarrassing appearance at a tea party rally at which he was booed and heckled and saw many in the crowd literally turn their backs to him. Then there was Attorney General Henry McMaster’s ill-fated attack on Craig’s List, making him a national laughing stock. And now Andre.
Bauer is done. No matter the quick and well-played spin Bauer and his consultants have put on the candidates stupid remarks, the words will stick with voters and potentional contributors. He’ll continue in the race, but poll numbers and – more than likely – campaign contributions will plummet.
Fewer and fewer will feed his campaign making Andre Bauer, essentially, a stray candidate.

Tea Party Libertarians seem to want to invade the Republican Party at the expense of sensible politicians. Gresham is a target only because he is a Congressman from Washington. Like Dick Riley, Barrett has a plan to move South Carolina forward. As an Independent I hope he wins the primary and then on to Nov.
Sometimes one needs Divine intervention. Seems as if Scott Brown had it, and it seems as if Nikki Haley is currying favor with the big man up stairs.
This could not have happened to a nicer guy. Bye-bye Bauer!
As I commented on the previous post: I wonder if Bauer goes down in flames–figuratively this time–whether or not Barrett will benefit from it at all.
I’m sure Haley is going to get a lot more popular when people see what good ol’ boy airheads REALLY think (or don’t).
How about Bauer take his ass home, with the rest of SC politicos, and get a real job.
We need leaders, not more politicos, Bauer is the latter.
Barrett was booed by Tea Party populists at a rally in Greenville, not in his home 3rd Congressional District.
The TARP vote in October of 2008 was the right one, btw.
I knew that – I really did. THANKS!
Nikki is not that smart people! She has memorized the talking points wee, but she is clueless how to implement them. Ever try to reason with her when she is factually flat out wrong. Good luck then. She will not alter her mind to see things right in front of her. She is really not the savior for Republicans. After all, its been shown that Mark Sanford was fake too.
Here’s your chance. Give us specifics. Your “clueless” comment is particularly curious as Haley has been pretty clear about her plans for implementation.
But, it’s YOUR turn. Wha’cha got?
If you only knew how much she has tolerated my email messages and actually responded and discussed things with a big, fat political zero like me, it would probably scare you.
She is very open and very much right on the issues. She has made a couple of political missteps and admitted them in the past. What is so great is that she acted quickly to correct her error when something was brought to her attention. I’d call that open-minded and intelligent and willing to go for the truth no matter the consequences. At least that has been my experience with her since she was elected to the statehouse from my district.
I’m proud to say that I voted for her every time she has run and she has done more for the citizens of this state than all the other elected folks in the statehouse combined. I’m sure there are some other good folks in the statehouse (maybe one or two more) but what have THEY initiated and worked for that is real and substantial in returning power to the people by helping to tear down the wall of secrecy in the statehouse?

I think his comments, though no eloquent in word choice, were true. We breed assistance. One generation to the next.
My questions were all answered with Andre’s truthtelling episode. He’s withheld help and assistance from me for a couple of years leading to me loosing my home, my income, basically my life in general. He could have helped, but then he would have been feeding a stray animal.
Made me feel great.
For the record, Barrett, Graham and DeMint as well as the Luv Gov have all refused to assist this particular citizen.
Don’t ever get needy, in any way, for any reason.
