So, some South Carolina legislators want to impeach Governor Mark Sanford.  It’s not as if the state hasn’t suffered enough bad press this year.  NOOOOOOOOOO.  These fools gotta stretch this sad story out and continue picking at a scab that just needs to be left alone.

I don’t mean to excuse Sanford of any wrong-doing, but, as was the case with Richard Nixon 35 years ago, what serves the greater good?  Maybe the governor IS guilty of impeachable offenses on a strictly technical basis, but how agregious was his conduct?  Was it REALLY worthy of something so extreme as impeachment?  He’s a lame duck governor whose political aspirations went south with Sanford’s flight to Argentina.

Lame duck?  He’s a dead horse.

Those politicians who are looking to get their name in the paper or position themselves somehow in next year’s elections or just exact their pound of flesh should think about the state for a change.  If they want to live by the letter of the law and punish those who violate every such letter would not only be permanently busy, they all set themselves up for scrutiny.
