Hollerin’ Joe

Earlier I wrote that President Obama’s only option in his speech to the nation on health care “reform” was to lie.

South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson, evidently an avid reader of this here blog, decided to voice that opinion during the speech.

While I appreciate the sentiment, I agree with pundit Will Folks that

Obama is a liar and deserves to be called out as one – but not like that.  Wilson’s shocking lack of decorum disrespected the Office of the President and our nation’s democratic tradition, and he should be ashamed of himself for disgracing our state in such a way.

I admit, however, that I did like the grumbling and hoots from the Republicans assembled in the House chamber for the speech.  It took the edge off the Democrat love-fest and Obama’s desperate sales pitch.  The reactions were reminiscent of British Parliament where such outbursts are common and, I think, cool.

However, Rep. Wilson could have gotten his point across by waiting for the spin cameras and mics after the speech or, if he felt he had to say something during, just holler “No!”

Democrats/liberals spent eight years calling George Bush a liar, but never, NEVER during a speech, and certainly not in a joint session of Congress.

“You Lie!” is unseemly.

Then, it has been an unseemly few months in the Palmetto State. I’m gonna lose sleep over my next point, but … breathe, Spy, breathe…  OK  .. exhale… I agree with South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler:

Once again a South Carolina Republican has embarrassed our state

[I need a shower]

Wilson was disrespectful to the Office of the President, to the Chamber in which he serves and the people he was sent to represent.

Hollerin’ Joe’s official House website is now “down for maintenance.  I hope his judgment is undergoing a similar rehab.

  1. Joe Wilson let his emotions get the best of him. But let us not forget so easily that Joe has dedicated his life to freedom and he sees Obama taking those freedoms away from us at an alarming rate.

I will stand with an honorable man like Joe any day, over the likes of a committed fraudster like Obama.

  2. Some facts…

Steven A. Camarota is the Director of Research at the Center for Immigration Studies.

    ——————————————————————————–

Based on our analysis of Census Bureau data, we estimate that there are 6.6 million uninsured illegal immigrants in the United States who could be covered by the new health care reform bill (HR 3200). Even though HR 3200 states that illegal immigrants are not eligible for the proposed taxpayer-funded affordable premium credits, there is nothing in the bill to enforce this. An amendment was defeated in committee that would have required the use of the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program, used by almost all other means-tested programs of this kind.

    Among the findings:

•We estimate that there were 6.6 million illegal immigrants without health insurance in 2007 who had incomes below 400 percent of the poverty level, which is the income ceiling for the proposed affordable premium credits.

•If all uninsured illegal immigrants with incomes below 400 percent of poverty received the proposed credits, the estimated cost to the federal government would be $30.5 billion annually.

•We estimate the current cost of treating uninsured illegal immigrants at all levels of government to be $4.3 billion a year, primarily at emergency rooms and free clinics.

  3. Personally I think they ought to give Wilson the Congressional Medal of Honor. The real question though is not where in his speech did Obama lie. The real question is where did he even once tell the truth?

The real disrespect of the office of the President lies with Obama who thinks that somehow being President entitles him to have America believe his lies.

  4. I came to a conclusion about Wilson’s remark. I will hold it to myself. It did get me to thinking about passion in politics. Where’s the passion from Conservatives in Washington. As evidence that my longings are being deprived, I offer for your examination the Republican rebuttal to Obama last night. The doctor from Louisiana seemed a nice guy but, maybe he could have used some of Wilson’s passion.

  5. Joe Wilson was brought up with no manners, and provides another reason to be embarrassed about living in South Carolina. It was with great pleasure that I donated money to Rob Miller’s campaign today. Also notified a national political blog this morning about the nasty editorial that Joe Wilson wrote for THE STATE newspaper about Strom Thurmond’s eldest daughter a few years ago. It was on their website this afternoon and Keith Olbermann made reference to it this evening.
