Another One Bites The Dust?

There is a story out on more than one blog that’s gonna get a lot of attention.  It’s about South Carolina Lt. Governor Andre Bauer.

I won’t entertain a link to the story or even mention what it’s about, but I will say that I don’t care whether it’s true or not.  I care only about honest representation from our public servants.

I have written that Bauer intended to run for Congress from the 4th district, but the story will get legs and may well end Bauer’s political career in the state.  My sole interest in it is the impact it will have on the gubernatorial race next year.

Furman professor Dr. Brent Nelsen has already dropped out of the chase for the Governor’s Mansion and switched to running for State Superintendent of Education.

Many believe Gresham Barrett has been effectively eliminated from the campaign because of the reception he got at a “Tea Party” in April.  Those images and his perceived flip-flop on stimulus funding may have cost him his shot.

Mark Sanford’s scandal has caused some to speculate that Nikki Haley’s campaign will suffer from guilt-by-association.  I don’t believe that.

In addition to “thinning the herd,” the Bauer … issue … is going to be felt in the critical area of fund-raising.  Who will benefit financially from the fallout?

Where will the “Bauer money” go?

If Barrett is believed to be damaged, who will contributors favor instead?

What will come of the extensive Sanford funding Rolodex?

Will campaign cash cross party lines?

Guess I’ve got some spy’in to do…

Andre just pushed and pushed and pushed his way to the top. This stuff was bound to come out sooner or later. It is sad that it happened this way. But maybe he is better off with everything out in the public. Maybe the public will not care, after all it is a whacky world we live in.
