We know what a bastion of journalistic supremacy is The State newsp …. sorry. I can’t keep that up with a straight face.
The increasingly irrelevant State paper has come up with a list of “winners and losers” as a result of the Mark Sanford implosion. Predictably, the paper is calling State Representative (and Republican gubernatorial candidate) Nikki Haley a “loser.” Predictably because The State wants to marginalize a candidate like Rep. Haley.
For the Sages of Shop Road, here’s some advise. Don’t. Don’t call or consider Nikki Haley a “loser.”
This is a strong, dedicated and determined woman who believes in what she says, says what she believes and will deliver.
Did Sanford’s fall hurt Haley? I don’t think so. Yeah, she’s been politically associated with the Governor, but that won’t work against her. She’s still the freshest candidate in the race and will remain so. Her principles didn’t fall with the governor, nor will she alter her call for or approach to good government.
Rep. Haley has said her leadership philosophy differs stylistically with that of Mark Sanford, a difference that will benefit the office. She intends a more collegial relationship with the General Assembly and will give legislators credit when deserved. She will also call them out when she believes they are interfering with the good of the state.
Endorsements are always tricky, but Nikki Haley is not, never has been or never intended to be another Mark Sanford. When Rep. Haley hits the stump big time next year, Sanford – whether still in office or not – will be forgotten. Haley’s personal dynamism and authenticity will capture the electorate.
Will she win? I don’t know.
Loser? No way in Hell!
