Animal (State) House

In watching what goes on in Columbia, did you ever wonder if anyone was in charge?  Since they’re the majority, I mean Republicans.  Not all of them, just those in leadership positions that have established comfy fiefdoms and enjoy the power.

And it’s serious stuff they’re messin’ with.  It’s not like someone dropped a whole truckload of fizzies into the swim meet, or delivered the medical school cadavers to the alumni dinner.  No, it’s education and economic progress they’re screwing up.

This whole “stimulus” controversy has become a divisive issue for the state and within the South Carolina GOP.  And why is that?  It’s because the legislative “leadership” wants to STAY the legislative “leadership.”  To them, those of us who believe debt resolution is wise fiscal policy are of a morally casual attitude.

And, as far as they’re concerned, when President Obama twice denied Governor Sanford’s request to use a fraction of the funds designated to the state to pay down debt, the whole thing was over.

Over? Did I say “over”?

Nothing is over until the courts decide it is!  Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Something needs to be done about this. We gotta take these bastards.

And what’s their rationale?   That a few fiscal conservatives are trying to ruin a state they, themselves have already ruined.

If being fiscally responsible and constitutionally faithful is wrong – as their criticisms suggest -  then shouldn’t we blame the whole political system? And if the whole political system is guilty, then isn’t this an indictment of our Constitution in general?

I put it to you – isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society?

Well, they can way whatever they want to us, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to them badmouth the United States of America.

Now… where can I get 10,000 marbles?

  1. This is probably a strange response but here we go.

South Carolina has for entirely too long continued to send the same people back to the State House and that is a primary reason we are in the current situation. I don’t understand why we can read comments from citizens from all over the state about why they prefer a particular Legislator and the comments are usually because of what he does for their District. I mean Lexington County blatanly stated that Congressman Wilson was in trouble because he didn’t bring home the bacon for his home county.

Governor Sanford has the right idea but the Legislators are not willing to allow any idea that did not originate within their fifedom to be successful.

I do hope that all people in the state will take a long look at what their elected representatives are doing and what the overall impact is on the state and not just in their particular corner of the state. If we raise the standards for the entire state, I would think this would reflect well on us all.

Don’t give up the fight for responsible government that operates for the benefit of all of our citizens. The education system in a mess, medicade is in shambles, and all the time we refuse to even consider reasonable ways of fixing the problem.

One final note, the Germans did not bomb Pearl Harbor. It was the Japanese.

    • Thanks for reading and thanks for the comment. However…

This is the second time someone commented about Pearl Harbor. The first got a pass – I deleted it to save him the embarrassment.

    *Puzzled*

The proximity of the assertion about the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor to your reference to ‘the courts’ left me considering the idea that perhaps you’ve employed some sort of REALLY subtle…ummm…

    ???

I don’t know what to call it actually. :-/

Whatever it is it has clearly gone over my head. Nonetheless, if I’m wrong about the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor I that would certainly be news to me, but not necessarily ‘embarrassing’ per say. I would get embarrassed if such an error on my part wasn’t quite as common…

    • It’s a quote from the movie “Animal House.” There are several passages in this post that are quotes from that film – thus the title.

  3. Ahhhhh!!!!!

Sorry, I’m not too familar with that particular movie.

See what did I tell ya, totally over my head! :-)
