That’s Gotta Hurt!

Republican Congressman Gresham Barrett of South Carolina’s 3rd District got less than a friendly welcome at a tax rally on barrettWednesday.  The folks at The Palmetto Scoop did a great job in capturing the fury and vitriol of the crowd as Barrett, an announced 2010 gubernatorial candidate, was booed and generally treated with disdain for his flip-flopping on the Obama “stimulus” program.

Sometimes in politics, you can bookmark an event or comment as a game changer.  THIS may well be a slug to the heart of Barrett’s campaign for governor.  Yeah, the election is a year and a half away – a political millennium – but with those boos and shouts for Barrett to “go home” digitally recorded, you can be sure his opponents, either for the GOP nomination or, should he pass that test, the general election, will be playing that clip ad nauseum.

The razzing was bad enough, but Barrett continued – with far too few exceptions – with a poorly written prepared speech.  He made a few concessions and tried to play off the reception with comments like “you may turn your back on me, but I’ll never turn my back on you.”  But there IS that cut to the man in the crowd, back to the podium who turns to holler “TOO LATE!”

OUCH!

  1. Its always quite amazing how politicians often change their tune right before election time. It seem to be catching, most all of them catch it as the vote day gets closer and closer. And when the election is over its back to the same old voting patterns. Personally I think they all should be required to sign some type of pledge. But then that would do little as most of this bunch are attorneys and would find loopholes in any such document. Guess we need to learn how to trust them, ha! Politicians will lie and then lie some more. They all have a gift for double-talk. Reminded of a quote from a confederate civil war general, can’t recall his name but the quote stuck with me, “politicians will complicate the obvious and trivialize the momentous”.

  2. Will the real conservative please step forward?! Expect Barrett to start apologizing that’s what they all do when in a panic. We need someone to believe in that can beat Sheheen and move this state forward!
