In all the hoo-ha over the “stimulus” money and whether states should take any or all of it and the consequences versus the advantages, there’s a pretty simple question that isn’t being asked.

“Why is Congress doing this?”

Anyone who thinks it’s for “the good of the country,” or because those mafiosi are just being benevolent, probably think the Somalian pirates are populist maritime liberators.

It’s no coincidence that many of the low-paying, temporary, geographically-scattered jobs that GodMother Pelosi claims to be creating don’t happen for another year or two.  What else happens at about that same time?

Oh yeah, mid-term elections.

Over a year ago, in comparing Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, I wrote:

Obama will be more controllable. His obligation to the party core will be so strong, everything about his presidency will be approved, if not mandated, by the old guard.

And so it has become.  The Party did not want Hillary to be the nominee/President because it feared she would lose Congress as Bill did in 1994.  Now that the Ultimate Muppet is in office, what do the Political Prostitutes at the Capitol Hill Ranch and Social Club do?  They dish out more pork than a generation of pig pickin’s.  And the largess is timed to have the most visible impact right when they’re running for re-election.

“Why, look what I did for our district!  Potholes filled – new books for the library – fresh creosote on the telephone poles!  And what does my incumbent say?  Why, all he talks about is how poorly Wall Street is doin’.  My friends, I have no interest in WALL Street, I care about YOUR street.”

“Vote me.”

And a lot of stupid people, I say a lot of stupid people will.

  1. Well, Wes, talk to Leatherman, Harrell and Jim Rex. They’re the culprits. Ask Rex what his Department’s slush fund balance is and ask the other two why they didn’t raise the alarm of layoffs six months ago when the “stimulus” wasn’t a factor.

  2. The only reason teachers are at risk is because the department of education is run by blood soaking ticks. If they would take advantage of proven options like school vouchers, there would be plenty of money. People like Rex don’t care about educating children, they want to consolidate power and further a political agenda. Money is power. Obama knows it, Rex knows it… and thank God Sanford and DeMint know it. We just have explain it to everyone else.

In what other context would you accept the offer they’re making, “You give me $100 and I’ll give you $25 of value back. You may then praise me on the good work I did bringing all your money back to SC.”

There isn’t a single incumbent that should survive the next vote.
