I Want An Oompa Loompa Now!

March 18th, 2009 § 1 Comment

The State’s Warren Bolten sounds like Veruca Salt in the Willie Wonka movies.

Bolten-Salt’s “I want it NOW!” is yet another way to express SC Democratic Chair Carol Fowler’s eloquent and economically “stimulating” rant to Governor Mark Sanford – “take the money.”

I want the world. I want the whole world. I want to lock it all up in my pocket. It’s my bar of chocolate. Give it to me now. Veruca Salt

It’s the same tired nonsense that the Democratic Party is touting and, apparently, has enforced on Pravda South to regurgitate.

Bolten-Salt even throws in a shot at the state’s education system and creatively puts its poor performance on Sanford.

Last summer, Paul Hyde of GreenvilleOnline.com posted an equally vapid article asking if Governor Sanford hates Public education.

Curiously, the associate editor of the increasingly irrelevant State somehow neglected to take aim at Superintendent of Education Jim Rex or the South Carolina State Legislature.  Both have much more control over state operations because of an antiquated constitution.

Nor did Bolten-Salt even consider looking at Congressman Jim Clyburn.

Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., the House majority whip, added a provision to the economic stimulus bill that would allow state legislators to bypass governors and seek billions in federal money.

Shouldn’t Bolten-Salt be even a little bit concerned that the Congress of the United States is specifically and deliberately circumventing governors?  For that matter, shouldn’t EVERYone be worried about this?

There is a constitutional issue here when Congress mandates authorities within a state among duly elected officials.

I want it now, daddy. What’s the matter with those twerps down there? Veruca Salt

Of course, that’s not the complete story…  Rep. Clyburn has accused Sanford and other southern governors of being a racist because they DARED to turn down “stimulus” money.  We knew this was coming.  When it comes to race, Democratic demogogery is not new nor is it unexpected.

Bolten-Salt’s outrage also touched on the dustup over the Employment Security Commission.  Warren, like many others, got played by Sanford on that issue, too.  So, he and his (i.e. Brad Warthen) stomped their feet and whined.

I want a party with roomfuls of laughter, / Ten thousand tons of ice cream, / And if I don’t get the things I am after, / I’m going to screeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEAM. Veruca Salt

Once again, Mark Sanford appears to be the only adult in this discussion.
