Obama’s Monica

2008 December 18

When Bill Clinton became President in 1992, the Democratic establishment KNEW about his philandering reputation.  They should have told him to knock it off and, if he didn’t, they would cut his political feet right out from under him.

He didn’t and neither did they.

Now, Barack Obama has risen from curious obscurity to become the 44th president.

It used to be that we didn’t know much of anything about Obama.  He was the stealth candidate whose background was thin and his resume thinner.

Then we learned about Tony Rezko and Jermiah Wright and Bill Ayers.  Oh, but those were nothing more than casual acquaintances at the most.  People with whom he rubbed elbows in passing on his way up – oh so rapidly – to the top of American politics.  Well, he DID know Rev. Wright for over 20 years, but he never listened to him.

Now, there’s the Rod Blagojevich scandal, much of it centered around Obama’s soon-to-be-vacated Senate seat and his chief-of-staff in waiting, Rahm Emmanuel.

I’m not naive, and – no matter what the doctors and courts say – I’m not stupid.  One does not rise so quickly and prominently in Chicago (or any big-city) politics by being naive or stupid.   I have no idea if Obama was involved in pay-for-play, but he DID raise (and otherwise collect) millions of dollars and, in the process, became THE player, not only in Chicagoland, but the United States.

Rezko, Wright, Ayers, Blagojevich and, now, Rughuveer Nayak.  Nayak and Obama were both on Blagojevich’s transition team for Health issues.  That, of itself, is no big deal, but Nayak is a big player in Chicago politics and a money man of dubious reputation.

I repeat… One does not rise so quickly and prominently in Chicago (or any big-city) politics by being naive or stupid.

You don’t get to be a Spy by being naive or stupid, either.  If you are, just like Chicago politicians, you’re dead before the campaign gets started.

Paula Jones, Gennifer Flowers, Juanita Broaddrick, etc. formed a pattern that made the Monica Lewinsky charges believable.  Rod Blagojevich, Tony Rezko, Rughuveer Nayak may well be forming the same pattern – or even turn out to be Barak Obama’s Monica Lewinsky.

Maybe we should check these guys for a stained blue suit.

Well, it worked with the Clintons, though there seems less to work with here. Of course, most people don’t understand the logical fallacy of putting your opponent in the position of having to prove a negative.
I’m sure if the Wingnut Wrong (I just can’t call those people “Right”) wants to portray our next president as unwholesome, there are plenty of people who are predisposed to accept that reading. They will not need nothing anymore substantive than the above.
Like I said, it worked with the Clintons. It accomplished its political purpose exceedingly well; it just served the Republic exceedingly poorly.
If you don’t have more than this, maybe you should go find something productive to do.

Ooh, too early, my apologies for the double negative above.
