McCain/Palin

In National Politics on August 27, 2008 at 8:23 am

John McCain has likely made his choice for the GOP Vice Presidential slot, but in case he’s still thinking about it (and is a reader of The Garnet Spy) here’s some advise: Pick Sarah Palin.  Here’s why:

  • Joe Biden gave Barack Obama NO bounce.  And why should he?  He’s a stale choice.  It’s Obama’s attempt to bolster his weak foreign policy experience and it’s the Party’s way of putting a baby-sitter in his camp.  Choosing Palin would not only give McCain a bounce, it will richochet across the country.
  • McCain likes to be known as a maverick.  Palin IS a maverick in Alaskan politics – a respected and successful one.  Picking another establishment white dude won’t help that image any more than Biden helped the Obama “change” platform.
  • Issues: Governor Palin has strong conservative credentials and, on the issue du jour – energy – she is far more qualified to address it than are any of the other candidates.  If the Dems wanna bad mouth the idea of drilling in ANWR, they’ll have to go through Sarah Palin.  May God have mercy on their evil souls.  Further, as an accredited conservative, she’ll assuage the right, something McCain can desperately use.
  • Women. Palin is one (IS SHE EVER!), neither Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty nor Lieberman are.  That matters to many voters.  In fact, if polls are accurate and people tend to vote their genetics, a greater percentage of women vote than do blacks.  Meaning?  A McCain/Palin ticket would draw a huge number of bitter Clinton supporters and draw in female undecideds.  Further, for those women who want to vote for a “softer, gentler” candidate, Palin – a mother of five with a son in the Army – buffs off McCain’s rough edges.  Further, in April, she gave birh to a child with special needs.  She is a mother figure – far more so than Hillary Clinton – yet still an accomplished politician and leader.
  • Debates: Joe Biden is known for a sharp tongue and is an established Washington insider.  With Palin on the ticket, the Vice-Presidential debates will get huge ratings.  Let Joe unload at the debates with all his Delaware bluster.  Not only will he come across as a bully, Palin can more than handle her own.
  • Contrast: Not only does the Governor offer a delightful alternative to Joe Biden, she’s a helluva replacement for Dick Cheney.
  • Age: Palin is not only 28 years younger than John McCain, she’s 3 years Obama’s junior.  Here we have an homage to the GOP’s future.  The youth vote will flock to Sarah Palin – swiping from Obama a major demographic.
  • Media: There is no way Joe Biden is gonna attract the media like Sarah Palin.  Not only because she’s a female on the national ticket, but she has an inspiring back story.
  • As VP: Palin will be an outstanding agent for the McCain administration.  Smart, a quick learner, personable (IS SHE EVER!) she will be able to promote McCain initiatives like no other candidate on the foreign or domestic landscapes.

The Cons:

  • She’s from Alaska. But then, Biden is from Delaware.  Mox nix.
  • Pro Life: The pro abortion crowd will not be drawn to Palin.  The story of her choosing to give birth to her fifth child, knowing he had Downs Syndrome, is a pro life testament.  But, if the pro abortion crowd is going choose on the basis of that one issue, they likely won’t vote Republican anyway.

John?  Are you listening?

  1. Interesting, I still think Romney is the clear choice but that is coming from a libertarian/Conservative point of view… The debate of women stealing the Hillary votes is a curious one…

  2. The clear choice is PALIN!

  3. Hear, Hear – I agree completely.

  4. Gov Palin is a bimbo. She posed for Vogue magazine in a spaghetti-strap chemise with a plunging-neckline exposing half her girls. She wouldn’t be taken seriously. Gag. If McCain chooses her as VP he’s sunk. The Liberal MSM would have a field-day with her flashing her flesh across all news outlets.

  5. I believe the only reason Palin was elected Governor of Alaska, was due to all those lonely Alaskan men.

  6. [...] the case for Sarah Palin. The rumors of a chartered plane leaving from Alaska have been flying [...]

  8. “I still think Romney is the clear choice but that is coming from a libertarian/Conservative point of view”

I used to think so to, but the more I think about it, he would lose the campaign for McCain, because of the ridiculous anti-mormon sentiment on the southern states.

  9. [...] The Case for Sarah Palin: Why she’s a great choice [...]

  10. Politicus, I’m pretty sure that’s a Photoshop job and not a real Palin photo.

  12. This is a insulting to woman. To pick a VP that is female because she is female and not because of her qualifications?? Leave it to the Republicans to stomp on all of the progress that has been made this election season with regard to race and gender equality with a stunt like this just to win votes. This is appalling, insulting and a slap in the face to American women.

  13. Ok…here’s the deal….Obama has his hoops deal down pat, but he will never be able to kick up his bowling game enough by the time he takes office. McCain/Palin by a landslide!!!!!
John, after the oath of office, please have the decency to have a fatal heart attack. Sarah! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years!

  14. McCain loves the young ladies! Take a look at his eyes when Palin was making her announcement speech in Dayton, OH. He can’t keep his eyes off her ass! He is standing there twisting his marriage ring and oogling Palin’s ass. I think he wants to drill Alaska!

  15. Stephanie… pay attention. She actually has more public service experience than Obama. You want an insult to women? How about the Dems and NOW who let Bill Clinton and John Edwards institutionalize adultery without criticism or control?

  16. Well done our friend you alone with Bill Crystal nailed this one!

  17. What experience does she have? Mayor of a town not big enough to fill an average nba arena. There were 10 times as many people cheering on Obama yesterday than live in the town she managed LOL

And she is supposed to stand up to guys like Putin? Putin will put her over his knew and give her a good spanking…

  18. Well now, if we can get 90% of American women to vote for McCain/Palin, because Palin is a woman … just like 90% of blacks voted for Obama because he is black … this country would be in good shape.

  19. RE: Pete
You Obama supporters are always trying to give the false impression that Obama has soooo many people who want him … but, in reality, in both the primaries, and in this general election, Obama cannot get more than half of the voters. Regarding the grandiose convention … the 80,000 audience were loyal democrats, who were already for Obama, before the event even began. Actually, Palin has more experience and qualifications than Obama … a community organizer, with no executive experience, who has spent most of his short term as a senator, running for President. Palin already stood up to special interests and big oil companies. Obama has not shown any kahonies yet. LOL

  20. ” If the Dems wanna bad mouth the idea of drilling in ANWR, they’ll have to go through Sarah Palin. May God have mercy on their evil souls. ”

So, it’s “evil” to NOT despoil yet another wild place for a scant amount of oil, based on Creationist beliefs that it’s owed to us?

The U.S. only has about 2% of the world’s liquid crude, and that figure includes Alaska. That’s why our total production peaked in the early 1970s. It got too expensive to keep tearing up places like ANWR, but a pending global peak now makes it look viable.

The true evil is failure to admit that oil is a finite resource and that nature is worth a damn (nature keeps people alive, not money). Unwillingness to admit that Man can cause global warming could become one of the biggest crimes of the 21st century.

Emerging solar and battery advances, plus limited nuclear power, and a cessation of mindless population/economic growth, are the real energy solutions.

Expanding oil drilling is a return to past mistakes, and will further delay sustainability. Expensive oil is the only thing making most “conservatives” conserve at all, but ANWR will not make a dent in prices.

  21. 1st of all, Palin does NOT have the experience that Obama has. That is a joke. A mayor & Governor of Alaska. Give me a break. You now need a passport just to drive up to the state. Talk about isolated. She has no real experience dealing with real-America which is diverse. Foriegn policy is importatant but domestic concerns are KING! Many of our domestic concerns are socially ideological. A president can help set the tone. She governs a state with the population equivelent to that of a moderately sized U.S. city and even less issues dealing with social abstrations such as race. Well that’s experience we can depend on (Tongue in Cheek!)

Furthermore if blacks only voted for Obama because he was black then why was there no landslide votes for people like Allen Keys (rep). (Hint! Hint!) who mind you is not mixed and a son of America. Why do African Americans have such a dislike for Justice Thomas? Maybe there is more to African American love of Obama that his color. African American certainly did not overly-support him at the beginning of this race. Republicans and Democrats should do more homework before making such sweeping and inaccurate statements but I don’t expect that from either party.

  22. As a businesswoman and former McCain supporter, I am offended at the choice of the bimbo Sarah Palin for VP. Pictures of her in the 80s in her “beauty pageant phase” are already circulating on the web where she wore t-shirts that said things like I’m broke but not BUSTED and other classless idiot behavior. Obama and Palin are the same age, Obama was editor of law review at the same time Palin was behaving this way. Palin went to Idaho state and has a Journalism degree. You must be joking. Obama/Biden in 08.

  23. Reading above it looks like other women are offended as I am. I believe that the women that will vote for McCain/Palin are those that he already had before the Palin pick (because they are die hard repubs). But for the swing voters, Palin is a TURN OFF. My god what was he thinking. I have run more significant organizations that has Palin, this is insulting, especially since he had so many names to choose from.

  24. Michele…. Life is tough, but it’s tougher if you’re stupid. Bimbo? What a sexist thing to say. Obama took drugs – by his own admission – and his circle of friends run from criminals to terrorists to phoney men of God.

    Pay attention.

  25. Garnet Spy, don’t be sad that you are in the minority….Palin has no business being on the ticket! She has no experience, no good ideas, and no class. The Republican Party has gone downhill BIG TIME with this choice and with their performance over the past 8 YEARS!!!

  26. The repuiblican party hasn’t done us any good since they freed the slaves. Now they are all racist cowboys. Repubs have no idea what they are doing or saying anymore. They resort to such dirty politics and then have the nerve to talk about christian ethic. How funny. I love it. I love Christians who know nothing about Christinaity at all. I suppose God didn’t create this planet. I’m sure he approves of destroying it and building oil facilities everywhere. Yeah, that’s sound Christian!! I love this plan…let’s do it!! So far, McCain has made 52 false claims about Obama. Obama has made 0. That is a statistical fact too. This is how bad people get put into office. Republicans claim to be so pro-life, but everytime they are in office, the death tolls increase because people can’t afford good health care, war, capital punishment, killing animals etc etc etc. But you are all pro-life. It makes perfect sense. Maybe if you moral regulators actually knew anything about your religion you would actually make right decisions every once in a while. McCain will win this election, because that’s how America is, which is why things are so bad. But eventually, goodness will win. The good hearted Americans who want unity and peace will eventually get there chance and get rid of all the people who use God as a weapon to justify their own foolish pride rather than as a blessing.

  27. What is wrong with you people. GOVERNOR Palin has more experience at running a government than Obama and actually has more class. Check out his early days and read his book. Now that is something really scary.
