John McCain’s recent diatribe against the North Carolina Republican Party is the opening chapter of the Senator’s cannibalistic run to the White House. We can’t fault someone for going to lengths to achieve a goal, but McCain’s tactics are beginning to look very much like another candidate – Hillary Clinton.

The Spy wrote here that
Being considered “the Democrats favorite Republican” is something about John McCain that’s never impressed me. If said derisively, maybe I could respect it – and him – but since there is a sincerity about the Senator as being someone Democrats like, I am suspicious. No, not suspicious, nor cautious, not even curious, I don’t trust him.
and
John McCain will say and do anything to be President. His pairing with Russ Feingold, Ted Kennedy, Joe Lieberman and other liberal Democrats reveals him as a political whore. Of course he’s the Democrat’s favorite Republican because he isn’t a Republican. And he, too, will be obliged to the Democrat Party core should he be elected. In fact, it would pretty much be to the Dems advantage if McCain is elected rather than either of their party’s current candidates. If John McCain is elected, the Republican Party will continue to get blamed for everything from Global Warming to instability in the Middle East to unpopular winners on American Idol. And with that blame, their totals in Congress grow and their hold on American society – and taxpayer dollars – gets stronger.
Now, in an attempt to look presidential or “fair” or “all-inclusive,” McCain is telling the North Carolina GOP that they are out of touch with reality because they are evoking Jeremiah Wright’s left wing rants as proof of Barack Obama’s unsuitability.
First, this relates directly to a point The Spy tried to make a month ago:
Whomever the Democratic nominee – likely Barack Obama – McCain may well be out-funded and will need to make strategic use of all of his resources. We know the press is going to continue to fawn over Obama, if for no other reason than he’s a Democrat. McCain doesn’t need to base his campaign on Obama negatives, but those arrows are already in his quiver and he must be warrior enough to use them.
McCain will have to defend himself aplenty. With dissatisfied conservatives on the right and mean-spirited Democrats on the left, he’ll do his share of ’splaining. If his own curmudgeon persona – particularly compared to Obama’s youth and “star quality” – weren’t bad enough, he’ll be answering to accusations about The Keating Five, his legendary temper, adultery and even Mafia ties. The “Straight Talk Express” has some very difficult miles ahead of it.
So what’s an ill-tempered phony to do? He’s got to come out ready to take head shots at Obama. Wrap him in Jeremiah Wright’s racist, anti-American, Louis Farrakhan-loving arms and keep him there. Accusations aimed toward a “war hero” are seriously blunted when coming from someone tainted by hate for country and people of another color.
But will he? Will McCain claim the high road and try to out-class the Democrats? It’s a mistake a lot of election losers have made. McCain and the GOP can’t afford to make it this year.
With the Democrats slicing each other up and dividing into camps, there is more at stake than just the Presidency. There is a very real opportunity to regain House and Senate seats in an election in which half the Democratic Party is likely to be so ticked off they won’t even show up at the polls.
McCain has to man up and launch.
In terms the former pilot may better understand, don’t eject before the aircraft has left the carrier.
But more relevant to the clever title of this piece, Hillary will do anything to become president, even stomp her own party in the ground. It’s been said several times in this space that Hillary is the bane of the Democratic Party because the damage she and her husband have done to it. She believes she deserves to be president and will say and do anything to accomplish that.
John McCain is no different. He believes he should have been the Republican nominee in 2000, HE should have been the Commander-in-Chief on 9-11, HE should have developed our defense policies in Afghanistan, iraq and where-ever else.
It’s OK to work hard to accomplish a goal – to “do whatever it takes.” That’s not the issue. The point here is that John McCain is using the GOP – just as Hillary Clinton uses the Democratic Party – simply to further a personal ambition.
It’s not about God and Country, for these two, it’s about THEM. McCain has shown his middle finger to the Right and now North Carolina Republicans. Who’s next? Will the Republican Party commit “Suicide By McCain?”
