All the bluster and falderol coming from the Clinton camp about keeping the campaign alive, not giving up, etc. is meaningless. Hillary Clinton will not be the Democrats nominee for president. There are good things about that, and there are bad.
It’s good because she is one of the most vilified persons in American politics. As much hate as George Bush generates within the tiny confines of liberal minds, Ms. Clinton and her frat boy husband evoke considerably more bile on the right, right of center and even the center. So having her pretty much removed from the national stage is fuel for delight.
There is also a wistful longing to keep her around for the general election. As a caricature, it’s fun to mock her (and Bill), to howl at her (and his) latest outrage and laugh at the preposterous lies.
Another thing about the Clintons is that we pretty much know the baggage with which they travel the political landscape. We know who their associates are and at least the philosophical makeup of the people they would bring to an administration.
We really don’t know that about Barack Obama. The Jeremiah Wright and Tony Rezko controversies, along with the comments the senator made in San Francisco about Pennsylvania should make voters stop and think very hard about who this man might bring with him to the White House, the Pentagon, Foggy Bottom, Justice, Treasury, etc.
Consider Cassandra Butts, a primary Obama advisor. She’s the Senior Vice President for Domestic Policy of the Center for American Progress. Curiously, the Center is the brainchild of Hillary Clinton and Clinton Kool-Aid Boy John Podesta. Prime movers within or with the Center are George Soros, Tom Daschle, Harold Ickes and Ted Kennedy. Among the associated organizations are the Sierra Club, the ACLU, the National Immigration Law Center, the Arab American Institute and the American Muslim Council.
The Tom Daschle connection is strong and deep in the Obama camp. That, alone, is cause for worry should there be an Obama presidency.
General Merrill McPeak, Senator Barack Obama’s military advisor and co-chair of his presidential campaign is a longtime anti-Israeli critic who has slammed Israel harshly during his career [article].
There’s George Soros, William Ayers and a lot of John Kerry affiliations. Might Kerry or John Edwards find themselves prominent in an Obama Administration?
Who are the puppeteers behind Obama’s candidacy? And who will control an Obama White House?
