Now What?

Conservatives are about to get their wish. After almost 15 years, the Clinton’s are about to be expunged as major players on the national political scene. The Democratic Party is about to rid itself of the most destructive force to it since Ronald Reagan.
Interestingly, feminists have long wanted to be major stakeholders in American politics. And that’s OK. No disagreement from here. The more pronounced feminists have felt more at home with the Dems than with Republicans, primarily over the single issue of abortion. No matter, women are right now shaping the Democratic Party and they deserve credit for doing so.
In fact, two women in particular are forming the Party for the next dozen years: Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton.
In any hive, there can be only one Queen Bee. Hillary has assumed the title because, well, she’s Hillary Clinton. Nancy Pelosi, however, has earned the title as the first female Speaker of the House. And let’s face it, the leadership credentials that accompany the Speaker of the House are a bit more, ummmmm… “refined” than those of a First Lady. Got legislative stalemate? See the Speaker. Can’t decide on which china pattern to use? Check with the First Lady.
Nancy Pelosi wants to remain the Queen Bee. It’s not likely she aspires to anything more – not that Speaker is an insignificant post. Pelosi wields considerable power in the House and among Democrats – as long as Democrats are a majority in the House. If Hillary is the Party nominee, Nancy will become second female chair to her. If Hillary were to be elected, the Speaker has an even greater concern. It’s a very good bet that should Hillary Clinton be elected President, Congress will revert to the Republicans, as they did in Bill Clinton’s first off-year election. Nancy Pelosi would then be Minority Leader. She loses power, perks and the really, really neat office.
Hillary is contributing to the course of the party by being Hillary. Mean, stubborn, selfish, smarmy, condecending, dishonest … she’s being a Clinton. The path of the party, then, is a dead reckoning course to chaos – and defeat.
So, Hillary will not win the nomination – not in 2008, not in 2012.
And with her goes the conservative industry’s favorite target of opportunity. Bill and Hillary made it SO easy, didn’t they? From bimbo’s to Bosnia, from feeling our pain to always being a Yankees fan, these two have been a feast for mockery.
An old southern comedian asked “What will the preachers do when the Devil is saved?”
For conservatives, the Devil may not be saved, nor completely removed from liberal catechism, but the profile will be significantly reduced.
