A recent article illustrates a major problem for the Democratic Party this year:
… senior Democrats have begun to speak out in private as well as public about the impact a continuation of the bruising campaign might have in a fall confrontation with Sen. John McCain, the Republican nominee-in-waiting.
Several Democrats said the party’s chairman, Howard Dean, told House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid last week he was concerned about the possible impact of a nominating campaign that stretched through the end of the primaries in early June. Dean also said that if the party is divided going into next summer’s convention, it would remain that way afterward, even if the differences were papered over in the four days in Denver, these officials said.
Dean, Reid and Pelosi, all super delegates, are neutral in the race between Clinton and Obama.
The true danger for the Party is Hillary Clinton. She will say and do ANYthing to be President of the United States. She is a Democrat only because it’s the vehicle best suited for her ambitions. And why not? The Party not only embraced her husband, it allowed him to commit unspeakable acts upon it.
Hillary doesn’t care about the Democratic Party or the United States. Hillary cares about Hillary. Period.
The same was true of Bill. Has the Party caught on? It certainly would seem so, but if it allows this increasingly contentious campaign for the nomination go on, it could split the Party and alienate (disenfranchise?) half of the membership.
If Clinton does well in Ohio and Texas and begins to gain momentum, don’t be surprised if Obama bows out before the convention. He’s young and will have another chance. AND, if Hillary loses to McCain, he becomes the “I told you so” candidate in 2012 against a 76 yr old incumbent.
Hillary won’t concede. She believes the Presidency is hers because, well, she wants it. I still believe the Party wants her out because of the baggage she and her husband would bring to the White House and the damage they would do to Democratic control of Congress.
As bad as Bill was for a Democratic Congress, Hillary will be worse. She may not shtup an intern, but her mistakes and outrageous policies (and the certain charlatans she’ll bring to the Administration) , will turn the country to the right – hard.
I am white mid-everything: age, class, etc. When viewing the political scene now-here are my thoughts: 1) HILLARY needs many things, (such as a facelift- I can’t afford it either honey!), but she should probably just GO HOME to her unhappy boy- there is no telling what he might do (2) MC CAIN-thanks for your time and effort, some Republican had to! Don’t work too hard-it’ll rob you of your health . (3)Mr. OBAMA- ‘who’s your MOMA’-I know you will win-simply because you are a silver-tongued, smart tart who will generally make us all hope for peace-while we watch our good ‘ol UNITED STATES of AMERICA become the new NORTH AMERICAN COMMONWEALTH-the lady of compromise, mixed races, mixed sexes, mixed denominations-in a mixed up world of chaos that no longer has any individual flavors. He will make it all feel better, make it bearable for the next generation of nitwits who will inherit this unstable planet and country. So should we just grin and bear it-probably-get in line as we become a two class society and wait for the handouts from whoever has mercy on the majority of the world that is
left behind.
